Founder of Grateful Goldens Rescue Dies

Kerry J. Mensching, 54, founder of Grateful Goldens Rescue of the Low Country, died on March 27, 2010. She is survived by her family and friends, including two beloved Golden Retrievers, Doodle and Dillon. For the last 17 years Kerry’s passion was rescuing Golden Retrievers. She was founder and President of Grateful Goldens Rescue. Donations in her memory may be made to Grateful Goldens Rescue (GGRLC), 1406 Waterlily Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. 

Thank you Kerry for your life of service. You were cherished by many, and you will be missed.

Weekend Events 3/26-3/28

Summerville Flowertown Festival March 26th-28th 9 am-5 pm

The Summerville Flowertown Festival is taking place this weekend at Azalea Park. There will be 200 jury-selected artists, various rescues and shelter booths, delicious food, fun children’s activities, free admission and parking! Though you should still go and support the local rescues and shelters who will have booths with adoptable dogs!

Edgewater Bridge Run at Famous Joe’s March 27th 9 am

The Edgewater Bridge Run at Famous Joe’s in West Ashley  is a fun and less strenuous alternative to the Cooper River Bridge Run! Support Pet Helpers and enjoy music, drinks, food, and more. For more information click HERE.

Fashion for a Cause!

Hairy Winston has teamed up with Charleston Animal Society and Grateful Golden Retriever Rescue to bring you Fashion for a Cause! The Hairy Winston Fashion Show is this Saturday the 20th at 2:00 pm at the Mount Pleasant Towne Centre (between Gap & Banana Republic). Not only will you be able to preview the hippest canine fashions, you will able to find the rescue dog you have always wanted! Come join us for fun and fashion to help these dogs find forever homes!

Celebrate St. Labby Day!

Join Wild Heir Lab Rescue on Saturday, Mar. 20 from 1-5 pm at Art’s Bar & Grill in Mt. Pleasant for a fun filled afternoon with live music from the Fire Apes’ David Stewart and John Seymour. Stop by for plenty of puppy kisses, snacks, refreshing beverages, and games  – all to support rescued Labrador Retrievers and our senior dog program, Daisy’s place. Dogs and their well-behaved humans are invited to attend!

Shuck Your Paws Off for Pet Helpers

Downtown Charleston will fill with the Lowcountry’s greatest animal lovers on March 20th at 7:00pm – and you *AND YOUR DOG* are invited!  Enjoy a Saturday evening full of all-you-can-eat Southern cuisine, set to the swingin’ sounds of the Shakin’ Martinis at the Pet Helpers 9th Annual Oyster Roast, presented by Rosebank Farms Café, Fatboy’s Lowcountry Cooking, and Elizabeth Grace Occasions.

Thanks to the amazing outpouring of community support from the 800 guests at the 2009 Pet Helpers Oyster Roast, the event has been relocated to the Charleston Visitor Center at 375 Meeting Street in downtown Charleston. Surrounded by parking and with an endless supply of food and beverages, this year’s event is sure to be better than ever!

Indulge in all-you-can-eat oysters, Lowcountry Boil, chili, hot dogs, veggie dogs, non-alcoholic beverages and more!  Beer and wine will be available for an additional charge.  Bring your dog along and be sure to check out the silent auction while you enjoy the evening air!

Shuck your paws off to support Pet Helpers Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter Clinic and help to end the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs in the Lowcountry.

Pet Helpers works to accomplish this goal by keeping all animals until adopted, providing low cost spay/neuter surgeries, offering humane education programs, pursuing animal cruelty prosecution, and initiating animal welfare legislation.

Charleston Dog Show Party

Please join the Charleston Dog Show organizers at Dog and Horse Fine Art and Portraiture downtown to mingle and admire the gallery and artwork at Dog and Horse tomorrow March 10th from 6-8pm. Hostess Jaynie Spector graciously opens her gallery to CDS friends, and their dogs for this event. Wine and light appetizers will be served. Sponsorship materials, posters and information will be available for interested parties. Hats, koozies, visors will be on sale.
