Weekend Events 4/9-4/11 Plus Midweek Event

LCD Model Contest at PetFest 2010 Saturday April 10th 10-4 pm & Sunday April 11th 12-4 pm

Do you dream of your dog on the cover of Lowcountry Dog Magazine? Now’s your chance! Enter the LCD model contest at this year’s Pet Fest. It’s a free and fun contest where your dog will meet publisher Leah England and his or her doggie headshot will be taken. Last year 600 dogs vied for the prize! Mark your calendars now for this fun event filled with dog oriented vendors, rescues and shelters, a charity walk, a microchip clinic, frisbee demonstrations, entertainment, food tents and much more. Paws for the Blind Saturday April 10th 10 am-12 pm

Paws for the Blind will take place this weekend in Summerville. Join the Low Country Golden Retriever Rescue in supporting the Lions Programs for the Blind. They will have a table so you should stop by and say ‘Hi’. Visit for more information.

Pet Helpers Junior Volunteer Program Saturday April 10th 2-3 pm

Pet Helpers Pet Support Team is hosting Pet Helpers’ Junior Volunteer Program for ages 6-11. The groups mets the first Saturday of every month in the Pet Helpers Education Room. Contact Christine Bush, Volunteer Coordinator at or (843) 795-1110 ext. 25.

Pet Helpers High School Series Tuesday April 13th 4-6pm

Speakers will cover a variety of topics that will appeal to animal lovers and humanitarians in grades 9-12. $5 suggested donation. Meets the second Tuesday of every month at Pet Helpers. Spots are limited. Email to register.

Pet Helpers Rabies and Micro-Chip Clinic April 3rd 8 am-12:30 pm

Pet Helpers is hosting a rabies & micro-chip clinic offering low-cost rabies vaccines for your four-legged friends!  The event will take place at Folly Fire Department, 21 Center St. Low-cost rabies vaccines ($5) and microchips ($15). Visit for more info.

Weekend Events 3/26-3/28

Summerville Flowertown Festival March 26th-28th 9 am-5 pm

The Summerville Flowertown Festival is taking place this weekend at Azalea Park. There will be 200 jury-selected artists, various rescues and shelter booths, delicious food, fun children’s activities, free admission and parking! Click for more info.  NOTE: spectator’s dogs are not allowed at this event. What a bummer. Though you should still go and support the local rescues and shelters who will have booths with adoptable dogs!

Edgewater Bridge Run at Famous Joe’s March 27th 9 am

The Edgewater Bridge Run at Famous Joe’s in West Ashley  is a fun and less strenuous alternative to the Cooper River Bridge Run! Support Pet Helpers and enjoy music, drinks, food, and more. For more information click HERE.

Lucky Dog Cuisine Tasting Party Friday March 19th 10 am

Dolittle’s is introducing a new all natural food to it’s line-up. Lucky Dog Cuisine is a frozen pre-cooked food made right down the road in Bluffton, SC. Dr. Elenbaas, founder of Lucky Dog, will be in their Charleston store (Windermere Shopping Center) all day to talk about her food and to share samples with customers (both two-legged and four).

CAS Adoption Weekend Saturday March 20th 11 am

The Charleston Animal Society will be at the Mt. Pleasant PetSmart this weekend. Stop by while picking up your pet supplies and say hi to their awesome pets and volunteers.  You may even want to adopt on the spot!

Hairy Winston Fashion Show for a Cause Saturday March 20th 2 pm

Hairy Winston has teamed up with Charleston Animal Society and Grateful Golden Retriever Rescue to bring you Fashion for a Cause! The show will take place at the Mount Pleasant Towne Center (between Gap & Banana Republic). Not only will you be able to preview the hippest canine fashions, you will able to find the rescue dog you have always wanted! Come join us for fun and fashion to help these dogs find forever homes!

Pet Helpers Oyster Roast Saturday March 20th 7-11 pm

Shuck your paws off with Pet Helpers at our downtown oyster roast! Join us 7-11 p.m. at the Charleston Visitor Center, 375 Meeting Street. Presented by Rosebank Farms Cafe, Fatboy’s Lowcountry Cooking, and Elizabeth Grace Occasions. All-You-Can Eat Oysters, Lowcountry Boil, Hot Dogs, Veggie Dogs, Chili, and more! CPE Agility Trial Sat./Sun. March 20-21st 8:30 am

A Way to Play Dog Agility Club will host a CPE agility trial on March 20 – 21 at A Dog’s Way Inn, 761 Pendergrass Avenue, Murrells Inlet from 8:30a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Competing K9 athletes and their human handlers race through obstacle courses on the only dog agility field in South Carolina currently sanctioned by Canine Performance Events, Inc. Greyhound Pets of America Meet and Greet  Saturday 11am-2pm

GPA-Charleston is having a meet and greet at Earthfare on Saturday from 11-2. Come meet the foster dogs or buy your baby a new martingale collar!

Paw to Palette March 13th 10-11am

Paw to Palette will take place at the All is Well location on James Island. The experts from Bark Busters and All is Well will discuss canine psyche and nutrition. Learn how dogs communicate within a pack, what ingredients to look for on a dog food label and much, much more. There will be time at the end for questions and the seminar is free. Event for humans only, not appropriate for children under 12yrs. Reserve a seat in advance at the store or by calling All is Well 795-2001.

Paws on Ice March 13th 4pm

Featuring National Champion & former Olympian Sandy Lenz Jackson, Professional World Class Figure Skaters, and music by the Pinewood Music Techs. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children 8 years & under are FREE. Tickets available at the Frances R. Willis SPCA or at the door on the day of the event. All proceeds benefit the Frances R. Willis SPCA. Shuck Your Paws Off for Pet Helpers

Downtown Charleston will fill with the Lowcountry’s greatest animal lovers on March 20th at 7:00pm – and you *AND YOUR DOG* are invited!  Enjoy a Saturday evening full of all-you-can-eat Southern cuisine, set to the swingin’ sounds of the Shakin’ Martinis at the Pet Helpers 9th Annual Oyster Roast, presented by Rosebank Farms Café, Fatboy’s Lowcountry Cooking, and Elizabeth Grace Occasions.

Thanks to the amazing outpouring of community support from the 800 guests at the 2009 Pet Helpers Oyster Roast, the event has been relocated to the Charleston Visitor Center at 375 Meeting Street in downtown Charleston. Surrounded by parking and with an endless supply of food and beverages, this year’s event is sure to be better than ever!

Indulge in all-you-can-eat oysters, Lowcountry Boil, chili, hot dogs, veggie dogs, non-alcoholic beverages and more!  Beer and wine will be available for an additional charge.  Bring your dog along and be sure to check out the silent auction while you enjoy the evening air!

Shuck your paws off to support Pet Helpers Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter Clinic and help to end the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs in the Lowcountry.

Pet Helpers works to accomplish this goal by keeping all animals until adopted, providing low cost spay/neuter surgeries, offering humane education programs, pursuing animal cruelty prosecution, and initiating animal welfare legislation.

Park Week: Pets in the Park March 9th

Take your pooch to the park on Tuesday, March 9. From 7:30-9:30 a.m., it’s Bagel Bites with the Bark Angels at the Hampton Park Dog Run on the corner of Rutledge Avenue and Grove Street.

Or come out from 4-6 p.m. for Bark Angels Yappy Hour at Ackerman Park Dog Run, 55 Sycamore Drive.
